Pushy Salespeople
In places with lots of competition for limited tourist attention, beware the “hard sell.” Some areas are notorious for salespeople applying extreme amounts of pressure: following too closely, asking invasive personal questions, blocking your path, or employing guilt or other emotional manipulation.
Sometimes a firm but polite “no” is enough. The best approach, though, is to simply to avoid the worst areas: long rows of tour operators offering the same services, tchotchke merchants peddling identical wares, and any cruise ship dock or taxi stand.
